Cyclist Performance in Costa Mesa

Want to improve your performance on the bike? Costa Mesa's South West Health has partnered with ZenoLink which uses 3D motion analysis to gather research-level information about a cyclist’s peddling efficiency simply by videotaping that cyclist in action. ZenoLink’s proprietary software breaks down the video and produces a performance profile, which measures how effectively the cyclist utilizes peak speed output – his/her power potential. By measuring elements such as hip speed and leg speed, ZenoLink creates separate analyses of kinetic linking, stability and muscular loading. These are used to identify functional movement discrepancies that rob the cyclist of power, and to design a personalized Progressive Skills Training program that addresses those problem areas.
Below is a sample performance profile. This is the type of information that is generated from the 3D analysis. The information allows us to create specialized protocols called P.S.T. or progressive skills training. These PST's will improve the cyclists coordination and make them more efficient, leading to faster race times. For more information, contact us at 949-631-5226 Ext 10. www.3dsportsanalytics.com

Vitaminwater Isn't Healthy, Rules Federal Judge

A federal judge ruled this week that Vitaminwater will not, as its labels promise, keep you "healthy as a horse." Nor will it bring about a "healthy state of physical or mental being". Instead, Vitaminwater is really just a sugary snack food; non-carbonated fruit coke disguised as a sports drink. Because it's composed mostly of sugar and not vitamin-laden water, judge John Gleeson held that Vitaminwater's absurd marketing claims were likely to mislead consumers.

The kettlebell or girya (Russian: гиря) is a cast iron weight looking somewhat like a cannonball with a handle. Many companies produce their own brands of kettlebells and kettlebell exercise programs. Some modern kettlebells feature adjustable weights or are rubber coated to improve safety for floors.

While today, there are sizes that range from 5 lbs to 175 lbs, the traditional Russian kettlebell is usually one which weighs 1 Pood (roughly 16kg / 35lbs).

Unlike traditional dumbbells, the kettlebell's center of mass is extended beyond the hand, similar to a Clubbell. This allows for swing movements not possible with traditional dumbbells. Because more muscle groups are utilized in the swinging and movement of a kettlebell than during the lifting of dumbbells (particularly posterior chain and core muscles), a kettlebell workout is sometimes claimed to be more effective, and yields better results in less time (dependent on training goals).

Because the center of mass on a kettlebell "swings", micro-muscles are needed to balance a kettlebell, more so than a dumbbell. The existence of a handle allows for "release moves" which are not available to a dumbbell.

Variants of the kettle bell include bags filled with sand or steel shot. They also have a center of mass extended beyond the hand and allow for swing movements and release moves with added safety and added grip, wrist, arm and core strengthening due to the shifting fill material.
