bedI am often asked, what is the best bed or what bed do you recommend? At South West Health, we believe that inner spring beds are a thing of the past and are built as disposable items. We recommend three different types of beds .

The first is the Latex bed and these come in two varieties, organic and man made. The manufactures  use different thicknesses and layers of latex as well. Make sure to ask if the bed is solid latex or not. The beds come in varying firmness and usually carry a 20 year warranty. The advantage of this type of bed is that it contours to your body without the mattress swallowing you up. Since there are no springs, these beds do not need to be flipped either saving you from hurting your back.

The next type of bed that we recommend is the Tempur-pedic bed which is made of synthetic foam and comes in varying firmness. The one drawback that patients have noticed over the years is that the bed can tend to be warm. The bed does off gas for a while when its new as the material is made from chemicals. Tempur-pedic has remedied the heat problem by incorporating air flow layers into the mattress. This bed also comes with a twenty year warranty.

The final type of bed that we recommend at South West Health is the Sleep Number bed. The bed is unique in that it is an air bed, but not the kind you pump up when you have friends stay over. This is a sophisticated bed that has two separate chambers allowing each person to customize their level of comfort. In addition, the sleep number can be changed with the push of a button on the remote whenever you feel like you need a change. The only negative thing that our patients have said is that they can leak air slowly. The good news here is that this bed also has a twenty year warranty.

All of these beds have a 90 day trial period where you can test drive the bed and make sure it is the right fit for you. These beds are all widely available and in the same price range. If you have an inner spring bed that is 7-10 years old, chances are that it is time to replace it.
